Tour Update: Lykke Li, Blitzen Trapper, Predator Dub Assassins

After the winter holiday break, artists are gearing up again to go on tour.  There are an almost unlimited number of shows coming up in the next month.  Here are three suggestions for all our indie rockers, pop-sters, and reggae-lovers out there.  And if none of these suit you, check out your favorite show’s playlist, or look for a show near you in our special shows section.

Blitzen Trapper

Blitzen Trapper put out one of my personal favorite albums from 2008, Furr.  An album somewhat overlooked by many reviewers, every song was a well-crafted alt-country gem.  Eric Early’s voice is powerful: it sounds a little like Dylan, but not in that annoying “ugh, this guy is trying to sound like Dylan” kind of way.  With lots of guitars and excellent vocalizing, I’d definitely try to check out this Blitzen Trapper tour if it’s coming to a city near you.

Lykke Li

If you happen to have a fondness for absolutely beautiful Swedish pop songstresses that happen to be produced by Peter Bjorn and John, then Lykke Li is for you.  Several songs off of her 2008 album were ranked highly in top song lists of 2008, especially here on BTR.  She wears an impeccable ensemble for every show, and never fails to put on a good performance – jumping around stage and crooning to the audience.  It’s worth it to see her live just for the two songs I’m “Good I’m Gone” and “Dance, Dance, Dance.”

Predator Dub Assassins

If rock or pop isn’t your thing, then you should make sure to check out one of DJ Drew’s faves, Predator Dub Assassins.  They’re a New Jersey reggae group made up of other reggae stars from bands like The Toasters, Hub City Stompers, Bombtown, Inspecter 7, Mephiskapheles, and Steadfast United.  If New Jersey and reggae don’t automatically link up in your mind, then you should definitely try to get out to one of Pedator Dub Assassins’ many NJ shows in the coming weeks.
