BTR Live Studio: Gabriel Kahane

Today’s guest is Gabriel Kahane, performing stripped down versions of songs from his self titled debut (9/08), performed with multi-instrumentalist Rob Moose. The skilled composer and pianist has blurred the lines between the worlds of pop, jazz, and classical music, and his music rewards the careful listener. Kahane draws significant inspiration from the Northeast united states as well as from literary sources – including Robert Lowell, whose poem For the Union Dead served as the basis for Kahane’s recently debuted song cycle of the same name. My interview with Gabriel Kahane will bookend this live set.

On February 28th, Craigslistleider, Kahane’s a song cycle based on Craigslist personal ads, will be performed in its entirety at Greenwhich House here in New York City.
