Wild Sweet Orange at Mercury Lounge

I was lucky enough to catch Birmingham, AL rock band Wild Sweet Orange at their Mercury Lounge show last night. I’d heard their EP, but this was my first chance to really see what this quintet was all about. They’ve got a great Southern Rock sound- these guys sound like they’re causing a ruckus at a backyard bbq- but with excellent musicianship thrown into the mix. I was especially impressed with the abundant guitar solos, which were traded off throughout the show. Additionally, the baselines were sophisticated yet fun. For me, seeing a band having a great time onstage is what live music is all about. Their early set at Mercury Lounge was the perfect way to kick off my evening, and I expect they’ve gained quite a few fans in NYC.
