Tonight, I bring a heads up for all you party (but-not-on-a-Thursday-night) people. Once you get a chance check out the “Oh My God” music video with Lily Allen.
As a nod to Jess Rabbit’s fine performance in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Allen appears as a cartoon vixen putting on a racy late-night show for an audience filled with cameos. Among several male music celebrities, producer Mark Ronson makes an appearance, as do the Kaiser Chiefs.
Now, when I first saw the music video, I thought it was just interesting to see the Chiefs get some face time. Mind you I’m not a huge follower of theirs, but after learning that the original “Oh My God” was played by them, I was more curious than that G***** monkey to hear the original. I knew that the Kaiser Chief’s version couldn’t be close to the bubbly Lily Allen’s.
The song was originally released in 2004 and later found its way onto Lily Allen’s second mixtape. With Ronson, the track was re-recorded for his 2007 Version album and clearly…the balls turned up missing.
Literally, too. With Lily Allen on the mic, we miss the guitars, the rock, and the kick-ass chorus throwing you against the wall. Albeit, I really liked the Allen version the first few times seeing it, but there’s too much missing now when I go back. Check out the KC version on their Employment album if you haven’t already. What do you think?
